I’m having a play with the idea of creating a fumetti, which is a photo comic – ordinarily that sounds pretty lame but I want to photograph armatures in a 3D environment. This means I can build bigger characters, without needing to worry about the scale of the set.
I kinda fell over the idea of having Eris and Mr T Rundle (from my novel I’ve been writing for forever) as brother and sister. They are both immortal so can take on any age, in the novel they are both over 65, for the comic I picture them as jaded 30 somethings. I’m not a natural sketcher but I bought myself some Spectrum Noir markers and I’ve been playing dress up with Eris, she’s the girl that brings the fire. Her face is borrowed from a character that’s been sat in a folder for a while (The box head boy) and I’m less shy about sharing the doodles now so MEET ERIS.
I’m totally enjoying myself and becoming a little obsessive for playing on Blender and watching Teen Wolf, Season 3 part 2 Buffy-esque and awesome. It takes me a few attempts to master anything at present, three for the bed, two for the chair, one for the chest of drawers.
So I’ve been doing my tutorials the “Fundamentals” Basics of Blender, Mesh Modelling, Texturing and I’ve started shading. It’s a lot to take in but I’m making notes and picking up terminology. I have got the hang of the basic tools and have started making furniture for the game, it’s a struggle between keeping the poly count down and making something interesting. Not sure anything at this point will actually make it into the game, more a place holder, I’ve placed them in the environment in unreal but at this point everything’s a work in progress.
I have a stack of mock papers that I have been putting off marking that I need to tackle tomorrow before more tutorials BOOOOO, grumpy because I don’t wanna *stamps feet* but not doing it, isn’t getting it done. Need more tutorials before I model more really.
The New Years res for 2017 is to make a video game 🙂 We have the idea, I have scheduled, planned, mapped, designed and we have built and textured the inside environment. Bobby is currently animating doors and creating the dynamic lighting and I’m trying to learn Blender to be able to model the assets.
Efforts so far below – a modified cube (gotta start somewhere) a chair, another chair, cardboard box and (a play with all the tools and no consideration for ngons and poly counts) a flower. I’m liking it so far, I love the workflow, videos and getting XP. It’s like learning another language but it’s pretty cool as my brain is buzzing for other applications 3D animations or 3D printing. It’s something I’ve always wanted to be able to do, so I will chart my progress here.
I built Nica and Black Bear to animate but predictable I didn’t have the patience so the project turned into a picture book, same narrative and same words, just a different format. Greg Kitten did the honours and photographed the frames, just waiting for it to come back from print, some sample pages below.
I had this idea ages ago for an E4STING so I built the armature for the character, I went off the idea of doing a Sting so he has evolved into an idea for a possible ident, going to finish him off and have a play with stills and a little animation perhaps.
His fingers have beads in so enable them to have long and skinny joints, I do like his hands. The head and jaw are a polystyrene ball base, plumbers epoxy and Fimo for the teeth, finished in latex, foam and rough flocking.
I painted him, added fake fur and a hat, cuff and collar. He has since been defurred a little, the cuff and collar are gone and I’m gonna hand lay some felting fibre instead.
